With Help from Forte Animal Rescue, Oreo Finds a Forever Home
Hi. I’m Oreo, a Pointer/Jack Russell mix. As you can see from my coloring, that’s a perfect name for me. I’m as cute as a cookie! But even though people also tell me I have a winning personality, I was still abandoned by my first owner.
I took to the streets of South Central Los Angeles on my own. But I was soon picked up and brought to a facility where animals were put down if they weren’t claimed or adopted after two weeks. They just didn’t have the kennel space to keep dogs longer. Luckily, my life was saved just in time.

My dad, Brian, is a volunteer for Forte Animal Rescue and he knew I needed help. He’s my hero – over the years, he’s pulled 32 dogs whose time was running out at various shelters in the Los Angeles area. I was number 12. He says he had no intention of adopting a dog at that time, but we fell in love. So true!
You may recognize me from the first American Rescue Dog Show on the Hallmark Channel. In 2018, I won the of “Best in Fetching” category in the show. I love playing fetch with Brian, and I guess that showed! Or maybe it was just obvious how happy I am now that I have a home.
People who work at shelters and rescues are amazing, and I’m proof that they really do save lives. I’m so glad my dad found me, and grateful to each of the shelters that gave me a home until I found him.
